Fees & Commission Disclosure
FitSwap doesn't charge money for the swap itself — no item is bought or sold. The only fee is a commission on shipping, charged only when a swap actually ships.
12.1 When a Fee Applies
Swaps completed by in-person meetup have no fee of any kind. A commission only applies when a swap is fulfilled by shipping, and only at the moment each side purchases their own shipping label.
12.2 How the Commission Is Calculated
The commission on a shipping label is the greater of 20% of that label's cost, or a flat $2.95 — whichever is higher. In practice, that means:
- Labels costing $14.75 or more are charged 20% of the label cost.
- Labels costing less than $14.75 are charged a flat $2.95.
For example, an $8.00 label is charged the $2.95 flat minimum (20% of $8.00 would only be $1.60). A $25.00 label is charged $5.00 (20% of $25.00).
12.3 Charged Once Per Side, Not Once Per Swap
Because a swap by shipping involves two separate outgoing packages — one from each participant — the commission is charged independently on each side's own label purchase. A single completed shipping swap therefore involves two separate commission charges, one per participant, each calculated only on that participant's own shipping cost. You are never charged a commission based on the other party's shipping cost, and you are never charged twice for your own label.
12.4 When You're Charged
The commission is calculated and charged at the moment you purchase your shipping label — before the carrier has picked it up, and regardless of whether the other side has purchased theirs yet.
12.5 If a Swap Falls Through After You've Shipped
If a swap is later cancelled because the other side didn't follow through — see the Swap Protection Policy— you've still purchased and used a real shipping label at that point. Whether the commission on that label is refunded in that situation is addressed in Swap Protection §10.7.
12.6 Currency, Payment & Taxes
All amounts on this page are in U.S. dollars (USD) — shipping-fee charges are processed in USD regardless of where you're located. You'll save a payment method (via our payment processor, Stripe) before you can ship; the label cost plus commission is charged to that payment method at the moment you buy the label, as described in §12.4. FitSwap does not store your full card number — Stripe does, as a PCI-compliant payment processor.
FitSwap does not add GST/HST or sales tax on top of the commission — the amount charged is exactly the label cost plus commission described above, with no additional tax line item.
12.7 No Other Fees
FitSwap does not charge listing fees, membership fees, or any fee for browsing, messaging, or proposing a swap. The shipping commission described above is the only fee on the platform today.
If FitSwap introduces a new fee in the future, this page will be updated before that fee takes effect, not after.
